Big band sound will put you "In the Mood"

GLENN MILLER will be centre stage at the Norseman Hotel, on Saturday night. Well, in spirit, anyway, as the Caithness Big Band pay their own tribute to
the famous American band leader, arranger and composer.
Alton Glenn Miller, to give him his full name, was one of the best-selling recording artists from 1939-1943, turning out evergreen hits such as In the Mood, Moonlight Serenade, Pennsylvania 65000, Chattanooga Choo Choo and String of Pearls, to name but a few.
While he was travelling to entertain U.S troops in France during World War 11, Miller disappeared in bad weather over the English Channel.
But his music lives on, not least through the Miller orchestra which was reformed after the war and continues to perform and record.
The Caithness Big Band is delighted to be able to add their tribute to this amazing musician and the individual sound he created and other greats such as Count Basie and Duke Ellington won’t be forgotten, either, when the guys take the stage at 7.30pm at the Norseman.
As you might anticipate, tickets are going fast but check with Marge Donaldson on Wick 605545 if there are still some available. Numbers are being restricted to allow for those who want to trip the light fantastic to those irresistible big band sounds.
The gig, which has been organised by Caithness Chest and Heart Support Group which raises funds for equipment for local surgeries and Caithness General Hospital.
