Police alert...beware of payment protection cash-up-front-offers

POLICE are highlighting a telephone scam which is currently operating in the Highlands and Islands, particularly in the Kyle of Lochalsh area.
A company purporting to be involved with PPI (payment protection insurance) is calling individuals and telling them they can successfully secure thousands of pounds for them if they discover they were wrongfully sold the insurance with an old loan.
The person is then asked to pay hundreds of pounds via Gift Voucher or UKASH voucher upfront to cover the false company’s commission.
The telephone number provided is given as 0208 1336471 and is widely found on the internet connected with various frauds of the above nature that have occurred in the United Kingdom.
There are legitimate companies which offer this service, but be aware that bona-fide companies never ask for cash up front.
Any company who does ask for cash up front should be avoided.
