Accused didn't have authority to collect, it's alleged

A LITHUANIAN man is facing charges of operating a bogus scheme by collecting clothes for major charities in the Highlands which had given him no authorisation.
Miglius Orieska, pleaded not guilty through an interpreter, when he appeared from custody at Wick Sheriff Court, today.
The charges allege that he claimed to be a legitimate collector and, while acting with others, induced members of the public in Ross-shire, to donate clothing in bags distributed on behalf of charities such as Scottish Cancer Support, the RNLI, and Kidney Research UK, and obtained the filled bags by fraud. In addition, he is alleged to have fraudulently collected in Caithness, under the pretence he was acting for Macmillan Cancer.
The offences are alleged to have occurred between August 3 and 25, last year.
Thirty-four-year-old Orieska , formerly of Millburn Road, Inverness, and now living in Alloway Avenue, Kilmarnock, was remanded in custody pending his trial at Wick Sheriff Court, on February 29, for the allegations relating to Caithness. He will then go forward to stand trial at Tain Sheriff Court on May 3.
