Accused threatened violence to police officers and their families

A SHERIFF told a Wick man who uttered violent threats to police officers and warned what he would do to their families and their homes, that it appeared from his record that he believed he could behave as he wanted.
The accused, Graeme Sinclair (27) appeared from custody at Wick Sheriff Court, today, and admitted threatening or abusive behaviour, while subject to bail, and a previous record.
The court was told that police were summoned to Sinclair’s home in Gunn’s Terrace, Wick, in the early hours of Saturday, by the accused’s father. There was an ongoing disturbance and officers spoke to Sinclair to establish what had occurred.
Sinclair appeared to be agitated, said senior fiscal depute, David Barclay, and it led to the accused shouting obscenities and swearing at the constables..
Mr Barclay continued: “He said he was going to head-butt them and slit their throats and batter them. The accused also threatened to smash their windows and told the two officers that he saw them again, they would be ‘dead’.” Sinclair was arrested and taken to the police station.
Mr Barclay said that there didn’t appeared to be any explanation for the accused’s behaviour, other than he had been drinking.
Solicitor Neil Wilson confirmed that Sinclair, who is due to answer a road traffic charge at Inverness Sheriff Court tomorrow, had had too much to drink but had apologised to the police when he sobered up in a cell. He was “a hard working young man” who hoped to resume offshore work shortly.
Sheriff Andrew Berry described the behaviour as “serious” and deferred sentence for reports until February 3.

Conduct not welcome here

And Edinburgh man, who ran amok in the toilet of the Wetherspoons bar in Wick, was told by the sheriff that his behaviour was “not welcome in this part of the world.”
Painter-decorator, Jamie Macgregor of Gogarloch Road, Edinburgh, admitted a vandalism charge . It was stated that the accused paid a visit to the toilet, on January 6, shortly before 11pm.
He proceeded to damage the soap dispenser, the hand dryer, the air freshener and the toilet roll holder, to the tune of £400. Bare wires were left exposed after one of the units was torn from the wall.
Mr Barclay said: “Fortunately, staff were sufficiently alert to something having happened and dealt with the matter straight away.”
Macgregor (26) who had come north to visit his girlfriend, is out on bail from Edinburgh Sheriff Court on a breach of the peace involving a football racism offence.
Mr Barclay added that although Macgregor had been drinking, he was not drunk, which made his behaviour “rather bizarre.”
Solicitor Mr Wilson maintained that the accused had been “plain drunk”, adding that this was no excuse for his conduct.
Sheriff Berry said that committing such an offence while on bail, made it “ a serious matter” and expressed the hope that Macgregor was not going to slip into a spiral of offending.
The accused was fined £200 and ordered to pay Wetherspoons £400 compensation.

Nightclub rowdy

A THURSO man who struggled with a nightclub steward after he refused to let him in free of charge, was ordered to carry out 60 hours unpaid community.
Ritchie Maclean, of Harald Drive, Thurso, admitted a breach of the peace, and a previous record.
It was stated that Maclean (23) started making a nuisance of himself at the entrance to Skinandi’s, on October 8, and was detained until the police arrived.

Didn’t have permission to accept package

Katrina Williams approached a postman saying she had permission to accept a package addressed to someone else.
The postman handed it over, in good faith, but Williams had no authority to accept it. She admitted a charge of fraud which occurred in St Magnus Road, Thurso, on December 20.
Williams (35) of Ormlie Crescent, Thurso, also admitted smashing a window at a house in the town’s Murkle Terrace, on Christmas Day and a bail breach. It was stated the police became involved when the package didn’t arrive at the person for whom it was intended.
Sentence was deferred for reports.

Accused of road traffic offences.

TWO men are to stand trial on road traffic charges.
They are 19-year-olds Andy Robertson, of Gunn’s Terrace and Ryan Malcolm of Thurso Road, both Wick.
They deny stealing car keys, and taking a car without consent, attempting to pervert the course of justice by fleeing from the scene of an accident when requested to stop, and having no insurance.
The offences are alleged to have happened in Gunn’s Terrace, on Saturday.
The two accused will return to court for their trial on February 29.
