loft conversion?

I am looking into having a loft converted.

I was just wondering if the orgers have any experiences of this that are worth sharing?

Has anyone done this by directly employing joiners/masons/plumbers, etc. separately or did you get a company to project-manage the whole thing?

How much does it cost? (I will be getting quotes but I just wondered if anyone had a rough idea.)

Any advice appreciated :)
