Police officer Andy Wyman has an extensive beat

NORTHERN Constabulary has taken delivery of a new mobile police station in the form of a 4x4 Transit which will be staffed by the Rural Beats Liaison Officer Andy Wyman, who covers a beat from Bettyhill to John O'Groats and Helmsdale.
Two police stations closed earlier this year in this region - at Lybster and Bettyhill. Bettyhill was replaced by a shared service centre which has been a big success with local residents.
The new van means that PC Andy Wymer can take a police service out more easily to a wider community across this rural area enabling a more visible police presence in rural communities. The multi-purpose van can also be used as a mobile incident van for major incidents and can be used in more adverse weather conditions. It is also fitted out to be used a facility for interviews.
PC Wymer said: "I think people like to see the vehicle around as it gives the reassurance that police are in the area and not far away. It's all about being visible and being accessible to people."
Area Commander for Caithness and Sutherland, Matthew Reiss said: "This must be the most adaptable vehicle we have in the Force and is ideal for covering one of the largest and most rural parts of the UK."
