Superb photo MPH.
Pity the sky wasn't as clear the previous evening allowing us to see the lunar eclipse in the same spot - all I got yesterday was a tantalising 30 seconds of a fuzzy bright patch through the cloud :~(
Why is the reflection of the moon in the water not symmetrically below it?
Sea water is at different levels and broken up so therefore the reflection will be distorted.
If the water was totally still as in a loch that is calm, the reflection would be more true.

Why is the reflection of the moon in the water not symmetrically below it?
The reflecting surfaces of the faces of the waves and ripples cause many individual glitters which add up to a distorted reflection of the light source.
The width of the glitter path is proportional to the sine of the height of the sun/moon and maximum inclination of the waves. Thus the higher the sun/moon or steeper the waves the wider and more distorted the glitter path becomes. As the sun/moon gets very low only the crests of the waves are illuminated, causing the glitter path to all but disappear.

Its all to do with science apparently,better ask one if you need a more detailed analysis. ;)
Fab photo MPH, I don't suppose you saw the bright satellite that crossed the sky from west to east about fifteen minutes before you took this shot. It was very bright.

Didnt see any satellites,i was out for a walk down to the harbour wothout my camera,saw the moon starting to creep over Dunnet Head so it was a quick sprint home to get the camera.
It was probably the flare from an Iridium satellite,although a quick check on them shows none at about 4.30,i'll see if i can find out what went by yesterday and when.
