Driver was travelling at 65mph in a 30mph limit

A MAN, who drove carelessly in Caithness while heading south from a family visit, was fined £400 at Wick Sheriff Court today.
Stephen Berry was caught in a speed check and clocked travelling at 65mph in a 30mph limit on A99 North Road, Wick, just after 8am on July 24.
Solicitor Sylvia MacLennan said that the offence was every much out of character for Berry of Homerell Close, Redcar, Cleveland, a first offender. He was heading home and had not been paying proper attention to his speed, at the stretch of road in question.
In addition to the fine, Berry incurred four penalty points.

Sexual misconduct alleged

ALLEGATIONS of sexual misconduct have been made against Thurso man Andrew Bremner who denies them and will stand trial early next year.
The two offences accuse Bremner (28) of communicating with a 14-year-old girl, persuading her to meet him for sexual acts which he wished to perform and inducing her to perform a sex act on him, at the Ormlie Industrial Estate. The offences are alleged to have occurred on November 1 and 11, respectively.
Bremner, of Miller’s Lane, Thurso, had his trial fixed for February 14.

Triple drugs allegations

A WICK man is facing three counts of drugs possession, on indictment.
Kevin Stewart’s case was continued without plea after the court was told he was currently working abroad, in Ghana and was not due to return until December 22.
Stewart, of Leandubh, Newtonhill, near Wick, is alleged to have been in possession of three different Class C drugs at his home on June 7, namely testosterone, nandrolone and clenbuterol.

Drove with excess alcohol

THE sheriff called for reports on a woman who drove with excess alcohol.
Lynne Cardosi, of Quarryside Crofthouse, East Murkle, Thurso, admitted the offence which occurred on May 22 at the Co-op car park in the town’s Meadow Lane.
Police had been trying to trace her because of a genuine concern for her welfare. They had reason to believe she had been drinking and tests following the usual roadside procedure, revealed a level of 133mgs-the limit it 80mgs.
Sheriff Berry deferred sentence until January 4 for a report on health issues affecting Cardosi (41) who will be subject to an interim disqualification until then.

Dog charge dropped

A CAITHNESS community councillor accused of being the owner of an Alsatian which attacked another dog has had the charge against him dropped.
The incident is alleged to have occurred at Jim Oag’s home, at Corbigoe, Sarclet, on March 28. The
76-year-old denied the charge earlier in the week when senior fiscal depute, David Barclay, requested a continuation. He said that he wished to consider representations made to him which raised certain legal points and he hoped to have matters concluded by Friday.
Today, Mr Barclay made a motion, granted by the sheriff, that the charge be deserted, pro loco et tempore. (in the meantime)
