Wick hotelier Christmas sale buys are Limousin and Beltex breeds

THE lamb and cattle champions at the Quoybrae mart’s Christmas primestock show, have again been bought by Wick hotelier Murray Lamont, for the 12th successive year.
He paid £2,400 at the Caithness Livestock Centre for the cattle supreme, a 640kg charolais heifer from Graham Henderson of Murrayfield Castletown. The lamb champions two 45.5kg Beltex from Kennth Sutherland and sons Stephen and Kenneth of Stainland and Sibmister Farms, Castletown, sold for £200 each to Mr Lamont. The Sutherlands also won the lamb reserve with two 49kg Texels which Woodhead Bros bought for £100 apiece.
The Young Farmers’ champion was a 697 Limousin bullock from William Barnetson of Lynegar, Watten. It was purchase by Le Bistro in Thurso’s Traill Street for £1,750 Reserve overall was a 720kg Limousin bullock from James Gunn, Whitefield, Reiss, which was sold to Caithness Livestock Breeders, for £2.30 a kg to gross £1,656.
