Panel considered evidence of physical and verbal abuse

A DISCIPLINARY hearing in Edinburgh has suspended a care home nurse for physical and verbal abuse of elderly residents at a Wick care home.
Rosalind Mackintosh was employed at Seaview House, one of a national chain. The panel considered witness statements and reports about her conduct, following which she was suspended from duty.
It described the allegations involving vulnerable residents as serious and concluded there was a risk of harm to residents should the behaviour be repeated and there was a high risk of it recurring. The panel, which suspended Ms Mackintosh from working as a nurse, for 18 months, held that the protection of the public outweighed any potential financial hardship to Ms Mackintosh.
She was not present at the hearing due to ill health.
A spokesman for Barchester said today that Ms Macintosh had been suspended immediately the allegations relating to her conduct were discovered and she was dismissed following an investigation.
The spokeswoman added that the health and wellbeing of the residents at Seaview “is always our utmost priority” and the company work closely with its regulators and the authorities to ensure the best standard of care.
