Reduced charges will be funded by Inverness Common Good Fund

THE Inverness Common Good Fund is giving shoppers and city traders an early Christmas present by offering cut price parking on each Saturday in the run up to Christmas Day.
Motorists will be able to park their cars in the Rose Street/Old Town Car Park for 20p for up to 4 hours of parking.
The concession begins on Saturday 26 November and will be in operation on Saturdays, 3, 10, 17 and 24 December.
The reduced parking charges of 20p for up to 4 hours will apply between 7am and 7pm Any parking period in excess of 4 hours will be charged at the normal rate. This reduced charge will only apply in the Council’s multi-storey Rose Street/Old Town car park during the dates and times stated. The Inverness Common Good Fund will underwrite the reduction in income generated during this peak car parking period before Christmas.
The concession is fully supported by the Inverness Central Ward members, who are eager to back traders in the Victorian Market as major roof repairs continue.
Provost Jimmy Gray, Chairman of the Inverness City Committee, said: “We recognise that shopkeepers are facing challenging times during the recession and that the Christmas period provides them with the best opportunity to maximise their income.
“At the same time, we recognise that traders in the Victorian Market need all our help while the major roof repairs proceed.
“So we have agreed to help shoppers by offering a significant reduction in their parking charges on a Saturday, with the charge being a token 20p for up to four hours.
“We hope this will encourage people to come to the city centre and stimulate business for city shopkeepers.”
