On Tuesday, November 29th, representatives from the Argyle Square Area Association will launch a plan to end dog fouling in the area.

The Argyle Square Area Association is a neighbourhood group made up of people living in and around Pulteneytown’s Georgian square, working together to make improvements to the area.

Members of the group will meet at 1pm in the Argyle Square green to officially begin their membership in the Green Dog WalkersŪ scheme (http://www.highland.gov.uk/yourenvironment/animalsandpestcontrol/greendogwalkers.htm)[/URL]. Green Dog WalkersŪ is a campaign aimed at changing attitudes about indiscriminate dog fouling so that it becomes socially unacceptable. Those who take the Green Dog Walkers pledge sign an agreement to:

clean up after their dog
wear the armband or put the GDW collar on their dog when walking their dog
carry extra dog waste bags
be happy to be approached to 'lend' a dog waste bag to those without
be a friendly reminder to other dog walkers to clean up after their dogs
The campaign piloted in Falkirk and was such a success that the Highland Council has now adopted it and made it available to community and tenants’ groups in the Highlands.

“The green is a defining part of our historic neighbourhood,” says Claire Whyte, chair of the Argyle Square Areas Association. “We want everyone to be able to enjoy it without having to watch their step.”

“What really appealed to us about Green Dog Walkers is its friendly approach,” she says. “It’s about being considerate to everyone in the neighbourhood — including the dog-walkers.”
