Town is getting what it deserves says local councillor

HIGHLAND councillors have welcomed plans to replace Wick’s four primary schools with two new ones.
If the education, culture and sport committee’s recommendation is approved by the full council, Hillhead and North primaries will disappear and a new school will be built on the existing site of the latter building; a new school will replace Pulteneytown Academy and South Primary alongside the new Wick High School.
Head of support services, Ron Mackenzie said that had raised concerns about safer routes to school and issues surrounding having primary and secondary pupils in the same campus. But he assured members that consultants would be brought in to ensure all access to the schools was safe and parents would be properly consulted throughout the process.
Wick councillor Graeme Smith welcomed the new school proposals and said: “This is very much a good news story for Wick. Some would say it is long overdue, so I am pleased we are getting what we deserve now.”
