Winter safe campaign gets support from Diageo

THE first of four free AA vehicle checks, organised as part of the Winter Safe Journey campaign, took place at the weekend and was hailed a great success.
The Winter Safe Journey campaign is funded by drinks firm Diageo in association with Northern Constabulary, Grampian Police, MFR, Northsound and the AA.
Twenty nine people had their vehicles checked ahead of the winter by AA Patrol Kenny Fraser. In fact Kenny actually went beyond his 0900-1200 timeslot to fit more vehicles in. Such was the demand, even then, some motorists had to be turned away.
But if you missed the checks in Inverness there will be three more clinics before the festive season, the first of which is at Tesco Danestone in Aberdeen on 12 November. Thereafter you can catch the AA at Tesco, Elgin on 19 November and Tesco, Dingwall on 26 November. All clinics will be between 0900 and 1200.
Northern Constabulary Road Safety Officer Laura Fisher, said: "The partnership is delighted with the response from the public to the first in the series of winter safety checks by the AA. It is encouraging that so many people are recognising the importance of making sure their vehicle is ready for the winter."
Moray Firth Radio's Street Team were also at Tesco in Inverness at the weekend to help out. Northsound will attend the event in Aberdeen and MFR will be at Elgin and Dingwall.
Everyone who has their vehicle checked will receive a complimentary Get Ready for Winter pack, which includes an ice scraper, tyre depth gauge and a wind-up torch, which doesn't require batteries or a bulb.
