He/she ticks all the right boxes; achieves, by fair play or foul, what their masters want; keeps the right company to "get on" and walks all over the rest of the poor sods.......

I had a Fat Cat once and he did was to Eat, Sleep and Eat some more. He died early as he was too Fat. This happens to all Fat Cats.

A fat cat earns its money by not sitting on its backside watching soaps or getting drunk.

A fat cat moves forward relentlessly in the financial world.
A fat cat smiles and looks down on all those moaning layabouts who just slag fat cats off.
A fat cat had/has the same chance/choice as all of us.

There is a big problem with how fat cats go about assessing their pay. In the good old days a person would come up through a business, 'man and boy' so to speak, and the company would have pay scales which was commensurate with the line of work that they were in because the pay scales reflected how much money was flowing through the business and the business had people at the top who knew the business inside and out because they grew up with it.

Nowadays, fat cats commission 'pay watchdog' companies who in turn collate what other fat cats are on in other types of businesses. As a result, the fat cats are made to feel in competition with each other and so, as an example, one director of, say, a mining company should have the same pay as someone who is a director of an umbrella making company. And if the watchdog says such and such is getting a 50% pay increase then they all get one.

The net result is that they all get rich and they frequently jump to businesses of which they know sod all about which often results in companies going under that might have stood the test of time under the old regime.

One political party that proposes to address this issue is the Scottish Green party who propose that fat cats should not earn more than ten times more that the lowest paid fulltime worker in the business.
