As a fairly regular cyclist I keep noticing lamp posts, railings and various hitching posts adorned with cycle locks, chains, cables and other means of tethering the bike but no machine is evident.
Can someone tell me what is going on? Do regular users just leave the lock behind until they return to their parking space later or next day or has some light handed bicycle thief been able to extract the bike (like one of those metal puzzles you always got at Christmas time) leaving only the lock behind.
My own theory is that the lock owners are hoping to find that one day a brand new bike will appear tethered there a bit like setting a bait in a likely stretch of water for that big trout! And how many abandoned locks and cables does it take before someone from the Council appears with the bolt cutters?
