Non-executive members required to devote eight hours a week to deliver healthcare services
NHS Highland is looking for people with an interest in the delivery of healthcare services to join its board. It currently needs to recruit two non executive directors as well as to the chair of the board.
The role of the chair takes up around three days a week in exchange for £29,640 a year. Non executive directors are expected to make a commitment of eight hours a week for which they will receive £8,008 a year.
The members are appointed by the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing and completed applications must be received on or before Friday November 18, 2011.
Training will be provided for new board members and the appointment will be for up to four years, with the possibility of re-appointment at the end of this period.
NHS Highland Chief Executive, Elaine Mead, said: “We greatly value the contribution that Chair and Non Executive members bring to the Board. They offer an important insight into what local people want from their health service and invaluable support and advice to the senior management team."
She continued: “This is a real opportunity to make a difference to the delivery of health services in the NHS Highland area. We would encourage anyone who feels ready to take up the challenge of joining the Board to apply for one of these posts. I look forward to discussing the roles with potential candidates.”
It is an exciting but very challenging time to join the board of NHS Highland including the proposed plans for integrating health and social care services. There will also be significant financial constraints but at a time of an increasing demands on services, not least through having to look after an increasingly older population.
Over the coming years this will mean a focus on prevention, anticipation and supported self management in order that everyone is able to live longer healthier lives at home, or in the community for as long as possible.
Non executive directors will need to be prepared to challenge existing models of services and practice. This is to ensure that new ways of working continue to provide high quality of care for the people of the Highlands together with ensuring the best possible value for money for every health pound spent.
Other opportunities to influence local health services include joining Hospital Patient Councils, Board Committees, becoming a member of Highland HealthVOICES Network or Argyll and Bute Public Partnership Forum.
NHS Highland also welcomes patient feedback at all times and is encouraging all patients to participate in any feed-back surveys, to feed-back to staff or submit comments via the NHS Highland internet site.
