Court threat lands man in the dock

A THREAT made by a man in the public benches of Wick Sheriff Court took him a few steps forward to the dock, today.
Jason Crompton (37) admitted the offence, which occurred prior to the start of court business on June 7.
The court was told that he was overheard to remark that he was thinking of assaulting Christopher Henry. The threat, was witnessed by Mr Henry’s partner among others.
Senior fiscal depute, David Barclay, said that the remark had caused “a certain amount of anxiety and alarm” to those in hearing range. He added that the comment had been made in the course of a heated debate between the various parties present, but added that, had it been made in private, “no more would have come of it”. The threat was not carried out.
Crompton, who is currently on probation, will reappear in court on November 7 when Sheriff Andrew Berry will see background reports.
The sheriff warned Crompton, of Bremner’s Walk, Wick, not to be chewing when he returned to court but the accused denied this and explained he had just had a dental filling.

Confrontation led to clash of heads

TROUBLE flared when Thurso businessman Andrew Bacon went to sort out some issues with a fellow trader a short distance along the street.
Bacon (54) of High Street, Wick, said to have been “over-zealous in his approach” in airing his concerns to bike shop owner, Shaun Hutchison in High Street, Thurso, shouted at him, followed by a clash of heads.
The accused admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner on May 24, this year and had sentence deferred for four months to allow him to demonstrate he could behave himself. Bacon’s actions were said to have been completely out of character, by his solicitor, Neil Wilson.
Sheriff Berry, commented that letters submitted to him, had “a consistent theme” and tended to support the background to the offence.
