My ggg-grandparents John BANKS and Anne DOULL married on 23 December 1825 in the parish of Wick John was a sailor in Pulteneytown and Anne's father was Peter DOULL, a joiner from Pulteneytown. I think that John was christened 1 Jul 1798 in Dunnet, the son of Donald Banks and Christina Dunnet. Anne was christened 25 Jul 1806 in Thurso, the daughter of Peter Doull and Jean Mowat. John died somewhere between 1838 and 1841 and Anne died 20 Jun 1857 at Back Bridge Street Wick.

John & Anne's children were:

1. Jean Banks c 7 Mar 1828 Wick. Jean married James Horne 26 Dec 1860 at Anderston Glasgow. In 1873 she was living at 57 Victoria Street Govan. In 1881 she was a housekeeper living at 132 Mains Street Barony Lanark and in 1891 she was widowed and living with her nephew, John Banks, at 7 Dempster Street Pulteneytown Wick. Jean died 13 Jul 1891 at Dempster Street.

2. Christina Banks c 17 Sep 1830. In 1881 she was living at 37 Breadalbane Terrace. Christina never married and was a netmender. She died 8 Feb 1891 at Argyle Square Pulteneytown.

3. Daniel (Donald), born about 1832 in Pulteneytown was my great-great-grandfather. He married Grace Bain 13 Jan 1865 Newington Edinburgh. Daniel was a plasterer and worked in Durham England for a number of years before returning to Edinburgh. In 1881, he was boarding with his sister, Christina. He died 18 Jun 1907 in Montrose Forfarshire.

4. Peter Banks was born about 1835 and married Caroline Amelia Eliza Ross on 14 Nov 1862 at Wick. Their children, born in Wick, were Anne b 1863, John b 1866, James b 1869 and Peter b 1871. Peter Banks was a baker in Wick d 7 Aug 1873 at East Banks. His children, John and Anne, were living at 7 Dempster Street Pulteneytown in 1881 and 1891.

5. John Douglas Banks was born about 1837. He was a journeyman tailor and died in Glasgow 1 Aug 1873.

6. Ann born about 1839. She was married to Sinclair Gunn Calder 2 Jun 1870 and died in Glasgow 23 Mar 1873.

Would anyone know of any connections with the family?

Thanks

Thanks Mary

I think Christina from the MIs might be the daughter of George Banks and Jean Jack, christened on 7 Apr 1831 at Dunnet. There's a Christina Banks married Donald Georgeson 13 Feb 1857 at Dunnet. Their children were John born 19 Dec 1857 at Dunnet and George, Jane, Donald and Jessie Ann all born at Wick. Jessie Ann was the last child and she was born on 27 May 1868.

Christina just might be a cousin of my Daniel.

Best wishes

Alastair
