Royal Bank of Scotland branch in Wick have generously offered to run a bottle stall within the branch on Friday 7th Ocober and donate all proceeds to Laurandy Day Care Centre.

Laurandy Day Care centre in Wick offeres a wide range of services for a number of our elderly citizens including nourishing meals, activites and for some assisted bathing facilities.

I should also declare my involvement. I am a volunteer commitee member and director of Laurandy. All of the committee and directors are unpaid.

The service runs on a combination of paid staff - mainly part-time and a manager Margaret Allan and a number of unpaid volunteers. We have a mini-bus that offers transport to and from the centre. The service is vital to those who use it and at the same time Laurandy can keep people outof hospital or make sure they can return to their homes after treatment.

Laurandy is also presently helping to establicsh a befriending service in Caithness for elderly people and co-ordinator is currently working from the centree to set things up.

Laurandy has core funding from NHS and Highland council. However that does not fully cover the costs of the things that are done. Many poeple make donations or support our fund raising activities over the year.

We are also currently discussing how we can be involved in helping more people at Caithness General when the new Integrated Health and Social Work services changes begin. Basically can we assist in more rehabilitation to ensure that elderly folk can return to their homes as soon as possible and not be stuck in a ward for longer than required.

We as a group have always been amazed at the generousity local people have shown to make sure our elderly citizens in Caithness are looked after and we hope many of you will support the RBS bottle stall.

You can either donate bottles directly to the branch in Bridge Street, Wick or turn up and buy some tickets on Friday 7 October. The bank have kindly agreed to accept bottles any time.

The bottle stall will run all day or until it runs out of bottles.

Thanks to anyone who contributes.....and a big thank you to the Royal Bank Staff in Wick for the offer.
