There are plenty of things for kids to do in Wick. When I was a teenager and I was bored, my mother would suggest doing a jigsaw, go for a bike ride, or finish off that drawing that I had started etc. Are teenagers in Wick averse to doing such things?

When I was with my friends, we would build dens, collect owl pellets or other things from the countryside and study them, in other words we used our self initiative to amuse ourselves instead of gurning "there's nothing to do"

But I do sympathise that Wick seems to be on the downturn, though I live Thursoish side of the county, I think Wick has the most delightful harbour and general layout, it just needs the local people to support and look after their town.

Ok if you want a more 'laid on and prepared type of entertainment' then why don't you get every young person's signature and address from Wick and the surrounding area onto a petition. You can the take that to Wick council and say 'Look here are all the names and addresses of everyone who want something provided that will entertain the young people of Caithness'

They will see the demand for such a facility and provide something or not. And it will probably depend on money that the council has to spend and the size of your petition.

There! Here is something for you to DO!
Such a scheme may bring jobs to the town, and it will give you a sense of achievement and pride that you have 'Made a Difference'. If you can get something provided then you have hidden talent and go far, MP perhaps?

It is a hard lesson, but you make your own dreams in this world.

If you're younger than me, you probably aren't that much younger... and no, not everyone does use text babble. I text all the time, but still make an effort to be understood.

Please, for the old peoples sakes... and mine, queen's english. Or we might as well all speak russian on these boards.

Hi chick,
Am old but wll try to use your language.

why you bored? Wick is not bored - U R . I think Wick is tired - it needs you to help it.
Now I am sure you can read - what r u reading at the moment? how often do you go to the library?
Do you listen to music? what do u like? write and tell us what music you like and maybe others will discuss it with U.
Ur language is interesting - have you written any poems with it? Id luv to read some of your work?
Perhaps you could write short stories for children - Am sure you could do it.
A few people have responded to your first item - u c , you have an audience already.

Get out and walk - you live in Caithness, one of the most beautiful areas in the country. There is so much to C out there. Keep talking 2 people ask them what they think about things.
But please dont use that word 'bored' again - use another word if you must.
You could try to say "I want to help people - what can I do to make their lives better?"

I think U R very bright and have a lot to offer - so off you go and get started
U wnt hear from me again - I have 2 much to do.
But good luck 2 U

Back on the subject ..Yes it is becoming a ghost town but why are the shops e being left empty....is it to do with rates?
What are our local councillors doing about the 'evacuation'?
What are they doing /going to do to make these premises attractive to business?
Are the premises fit for purpose(rumors of asbestos in the More store ,subsidence on Bridge street)& if not WHAT will they do about it?
What is missing in Wick?
What do we need?
More clothes shops?Electrical retailers?Argos/Index type shop? offlicense?Toy shop?
Internet /computer game type cafe/shop? specialist food shop?Bike shop?Cheaper kilt hire/wedding shop?Babyclothes (&bits n pieces ala mothercare)shop?Tourist information?
There is loads of Ideas that i'm sure would work.
(I think we can avoid more eateries/hairdressers/florists/shoe shops & 1 sport/ 1 music shop/2 jewellers would probably be enough for a small toon lek Week!!)

'BOOT TIME SOMEONE ANSWERED THESE QUESTIONS/ISSUES!!

Its all awfy depressing but we have to look forward & take ideas from other places that have been through the same rough patch
On a plus note ..good on Gails Gift box.Nice to see something opening instead of closing!! :D

golach, shock horror, I have to agree with you and I hate being agreeable.

I also had great difficulty with the original post. When that happens I take the old fashioned examiners view, "If I can't read it then it's wrong!"

Chick, what you have to learn is that you speak to different groups of people in different ways. Every group of people have their own jargon and usually it means not a thing to people outside that group.

Text Message "jargon" is for texting and not for emails, letters etc. I take it you speak in a different way when you are in trouble with your teacher to the way you chat to your mates afterwards.
And no, I'm not having a go, it's just a friendly bit of advice. :o)

Not another Wick v Thurso, Wick boring post!!!!!!!!!!
Please refer to previous posts before starting any again!!!!!!
Thurso has not go a lot more than Wick, Bowling alley and pictures admittedly but how many use them regularly and people moan about them anyway, shops are a bit more shiney but basically the same.
The shopping in Caithness has always been a take it leave it culture (not a lot of choice)
People from Thurso shop in Inverness as well.
So stop thinking the grass is always greener it ain't

Personally I wouldn't say thurso has ALOT more than wick but it has that added bonus of the cinema/bowling alley that wick has never really had the opportunity for.

To be honest the worst thing that is happening in wick at the moment is the amount of shops on the highstreet bordered up and not being used. nothing ever happened with dominoes or azad what makes you think it will be different with the more store or alliance and leicester.

There is nothing for the kids in wick at all to do. I know when I was in High School I was bored out of my brain the whole time. This is why the kids hang around the streets the whole time. Petitions have been tried but nothing has happened. I remember when I was in primary school and dominoes burned down we had letters all over the newspaper saying what could be done to help kids and that was primary school kids. If we were bored imagine how teenagers feel,

Will anyone ever listen?

I would be a bit more sympathetic if those samed bored teenagers could just be bored and leave everyone in peace, instead of causing damage around the town. Its not just the scratched cars (which some of us adults do boring jobs to pay for!), but last week an elderly lady in her eighties had all the windows in her greenhouse smashed and this week they came back to kick hell out of her garden wall, dislodging the coping on top. Apart from all the distress this has caused, how is a pensioner on her own supposed to fix this ?

Another group of "bored teenagers" were so bored this week that they tried to climb up on the traffic lights to smash the glass. When the police were called the complainant was told that there were no policemen or women in the town to attend to it!!!

I used to be proud to live in Wick, but these days there are a few mindless morons making it difficult to live here.... and don't tell me it happens all over, it still doesn't make it right.

I think only under sixteens should be on Wick Council, then all we can expect is brilliant ideas. Just remember back to those years ourselves, we knew everything then too!

hear hear KitKat. Being bored is no excuse for mindless vandalism and harassment of the elderly.

These junior thugs if/when caught should be made to face their victims and I think their parents should also face up to what they have spawned! [mad]
