A few people are having problems accessing the Quiz and wondering how it works so here's a quick guide.

Once you're logged in using your username and password you should see the FlashChat link towards the right hand end of the blue bar near the top of the page. Click this and, after some settings are loaded, you should find yourself in 'The Lounge' - the entry point to the Org's chatrooms.

To access the Quiz Room (or any other room) from here look in the top left and you should see Welcome 'your name' and below that will be Room. Next to it is a box with 'The Lounge' in it - click this text and a list of alternative rooms will be available. Click the room you require and you will be transported there.

Initially you may find that everyone else has their own text colour & font and it may be difficult to see some on the default background. You can use the Options button to find a font/colour/background which works for you and can then change the options so that everyone elses text looks like yours. To do this, click the Options button then click the Text tab and put a tick in the box next to 'Use my text colour for all received messages'. Now click OK to save the change. You will find many settings you can modify here so feel free to have a little play and customise your Chat experience.

The quiz itself is a very informal affair. The quiz master/mistress (quizzie) is usually the winner of the previous weeks' quiz (unless they have asked someone else or are unavailable, in which case someone else may volunteer for the night) and the start time may vary depending on any late entrants, 'hold-on's and 'BRB's (Be Right Back).

The quizzie generally does the questions in BOLD CAPITALS so that they stand out from other messages and the quickest correct answers get the points. It's usually 3 points for the first correct answer, 2 for the next and 1 for the third correct answer. As each answer is timed and there may be some answers with identical times, the points are usually given to both/all correct answers - I won't go into detail as it should be quite clear when this happens.

The questions will vary from quizzie to quizzie so might be easier one week than the next but that's part of the fun of it. Accurate spelling and even full answers are not always required - unless some ambiguity is possible in which case a more specific answer may be needed.

There are usually 20 questions with a 5 minute break after Q10 and once the quiz is done the quizzie will reveal who's come 3rd, 2nd and 1st.

Do not be put off by any general conversations which sometimes run through the quiz - it's all light hearted and can be a great way to relax in the company of your fellow Orgers!!!

Have fun

For any quizzie there is a simple Excel spreadsheet available to download to make the job of scoring easier. It automatically totals up each person's scores so making it easy to find out who is 1st, 2nd & 3rd at any time.

Just run it in the background and try not to shut it down half way through the quiz :D

You can download it by clicking here (http://www.caithnesshost.co.uk/Quiz%20Scores.xls)

I also recommend all quizzies to DOUBLE & EVEN TRIPLE check that your questions cannot be misinterpreted, and that your answers are right. This is especially true if you've used the Internet to get your information.

Where possible try Googling your question and see what answers you get 'cos the range of answers can be quite incredible!

Just a quick warning regarding any quizzes run by Acameron. They tend to be fast and furious - sometimes cramming 40+ questions into the same time as other quizzes with just 20! However they're still great fun and can lead to mini-riots as people trip over themselves to answer the questions in double-quick time :D

Firstly 'Flash Chat' has been sensibly renamed to 'Chat Room' so any previous posts mentioning Flash Chat please substitute the new wording.

Secondly a big Thank You to Ricco for his modification to the scoring spreadsheet - he's added a button which sorts the scores and scorers into order of most points to least. The quizzie can use it at the end of the quiz to determine 1st, 2nd & 3rd place without having to use their (by that time well fried) noggin! :D

QUIZZIES: Any chance that when you post the names of the runners up and winner that you could also post the scores? There have been a couple of occasions where the highest scores have been queried but there is nowhere where they are recorded.
