Accused said he would burn down boys' home

A WICK man, who threatened to burn down the homes of two boys, has been jailed for 15 months.
Sheriff John Halley said that James Mackay had been found guilty of “a very serious offence” which, he added, must have been “very frightening” for the lads aged six and eleven.
Mackay ( 44) described as a prisoner at Inverness, had denied threatening behaviour, but was found guilty after a trial before a jury at Tain Sheriff Court.
Solicitor Neil Wilson told the court that Mackay’s record “did not make for a happy read” but made the point that his rate of offending had slowed down over the years.
Sheriff Halley, who saw reports, described the record, including offences for similar crimes, as “deplorable”.
