Farmer fights area planning committee's turbine rejection

A CAITHNESS farmer, who had his application to erect a wind turbine near the Castle of Mey, turned down, has appealed the decision.
Barrogill Angus wanted to put up a single turbine with which to power his buildings, but councillors on the Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross Planning Applications, Committee took the view that the 67ft turbine would spoil the view of the Castle, a favourite holiday haunt of Prince Charles.
The committee received 18 objections to the project and 12 letters of support.
Now Mr Angus, who farms neighbouring Barrogill Mains, is fighting the decision. In his appeal, he points out that the site had been selected after imput from the administrator of the Castle of Mey Trust, Scottish Natural Heritage and Historic Scotland did not object to the proposal. He also accuses Highland Council of being inconsistent in assessing the impact of noise from the turbine, on residents.
Mr Angus also asks the Scottish Government Reporter to revisit all the information concerning his application and visit the site before coming to a decision on his appeal.
