Wick hoping for a blooming good outcome!

THE countdown has begun to results day for the annual Scotland in Bloom competition and Wick is eagerly awaiting the outcome.
Joanna Coghill and a colleague will head south next week for the all-important results to be announced on the isle of Bute in the hope of equalling last year’s silver success...or bettering it!
Mrs Coghill, who chairs the Royal Burgh of Wick Community Council’s Floral Baskets Committee, recalled it was a howling gale, the day that the local displays were judged but it didn’t prevent the town putting on a good show, reflecting that the town was “a good place to be”. Thankfully, there had been no vandalism, this year, and the feedback on the floral presentations had been positive.
She said that some 30 gardens had competed in the gala week competitions and expressed the hope that it would encourage more greenfingered enthusiasts to compete.
Chairwoman Coreen Campbell said it was wonderful news and commented on the “really lovely shows” in High Street, in particular, which had been frequently photographed by visitors. She wished the baskets committee all the best in this year’s awards and added that they were all awaiting the results with “baited breath.”
Community councillors paid tribute to the tireless efforts of member, Raymond Szyfelbain who tendered his resignation says he is no longer able to maintain the same imput.
There was some concern about the fact than none of the town’s three Highland councillors were present at this month's meeting.
The community council is considering nominations for the annual Highland Council Quality Awards competition.
