I see there are a few comments on the dog warden thread about dog poo picker uppers and non picker uppers....i have to say i do pick up after my pooches, and so should everyone else!!...don't know what we can do about horsey plop ...short of them carrying bin bag size poo bags, but it is a valid question on what to do about it.....
BUT.....my big bug bear is....all the happy campers that pitch tent at the beaches..Castletown, Sannick..etc....now i am happy to see them enjoying the sights and dodging camp site fees...but when they do THEIR toilet on the route that i walk and leave it with reems of loo paper it really gets me cross...i mean at least the dogs and horses don't leave half a roll of andrex behind them......so if there are any offenders out there...PLEASE plop in a bag and take it home or to the dog poop bin!!!!!!!!!!!!...
moan over...lol

If I had the chance I would collect the horsey plop for my roses. My gran always sent us out to shovel it for her garden.............

We clear up dog poo but what about horse riders, should they carry a bucket and spade and pick up what their horse drops?! http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/10/10_14_1.gif (http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001_ZN) http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/10/10_14_2.gif (http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001_ZN)

Think this has been discussed in the past but anyhoo my feelings on it is it happens on grass then fine surely everything needs fertiliser? If am am riding on a track/pavement which others use then I'd get off and kick it into the grass. Not everyone can do this as you might not be able to get back on. If this is the case you should return after your ride and remove the poo?

Perhaps there's scope for establishing a traditional leather tannery, providing fine leathers for horsey folk's saddles and tack, and bijou little collars for the doggy types. Well, for their dogs, anyway. Traditional craft industries are all the rage now.......

Would horse droppings work instead of chicken droppings, do you think? (http://www.channel4.com/history/microsites/W/worstjobs/victorian.html)

Hopefully, you'll keep the tannery over there in Thurso.

Toots I agree with you. If it is on the road or in the grass then to me it is fine but if it is on the pavement or a track used by others then defo get it cleared up!!! I have a young horse who is getting used to traffic so from a safety point of view I would come back down and clear any mess. I have a 5 year daughter and a dog and when we go out walking there is nothing worse than someone else's horse poo lying on the pavement. Everyone should be responsible for their animals waste. Luckily my dog won't do anything other than pee outside her garden so makes my life easier.

What's so special about horses? Why should their owners be allowed to leave it lying in the grass? I don't think the public would be too chuffed if my dog did it on the path and I just kicked it onto the grass! [disgust] Would I get off without a fine? As a responsible owner I'd pick it up wherever my dog did it.

You need a Land Rover to get round the streets of Kirkwall after the Riding of The Marches. Diff-locked in low range, too........... no danger of anyone horsey kicking it anywhere.....
