Ive a feeling John and many of his fallen comrades are turning in their graves now about whats happening to our armed forces by our government.

You dedicate the best part of your life to ensuring the safety and comfort of others, by being Very Bad to anyone who threatens, being Very Bad to your own head and body, to your own fragile ones. But part of your team.

And when you've done your 22, can you simply switch your Very Badness off? Or do you sell yourself to the highest bidder, still feeling, being totally and completely alive, reheating the old adventures.

And when, like an obsolete rifle, you get too old to be aimed and fired by those with wide cheque books, or the politicos change their minds, or the world simply grows out of its stupidity, and you're left with your memories, of the twisted and the destroyed, of history altered, of those who went before you, often in pieces. And your own flesh and blood, who believed in something and followed the bugle call...

Stag on, John MacAleese...
