Every year on 14th October, a memorial service is held for the men that died aboard HMS Royal Oak when she was torpeoded in Scapa Harbour. I attend every year as my uncle Ken was one of those men. In the last 9 years I have been, I have not come across anyone fae Caithness at these services despite their being some Caithnessains aboard this ship. Is this lack of awareness or resources to attend. If there is anyone who has lost a relative in this tradegy that wishes to attend, let me ken and I will put you in touch with Agnes Mac barron ( Orkney co ordinator) or if you wish me to lay a wreath on behalf of a relative, I will be glad to do so. I am going across on e 11th October. This is e 72nd anniversary and I feel its up to us younger generation to mind e memory of our loved ones and pass it down so these brave men shall not be forgotten. PM me if you wish to attend/ send a wreath
