Autism alert card event - 24 August, InvernessPublic agencies are supporting an Autism Alert Card Event in the Recreational Hall, Raigmore Hospital, Inverness on the 24th August at 2pm. Each partner organisation will have a stall with their own information displayed with application forms for the card.
The autism alert card will soon be available to anyone with a confirmed diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Condition who invariably come into contact with a variety of services at some time in their life.
Autism affects 1 in 100 people therefore all staff and members of the community will come into contact with autism and will benefit from knowing about this card and how to use it effectively.
The purpose of this event is to allow agencies to familiarise themselves with the card, to prepare them for front line interactions, and to equip them with the information they may need to be able to respond effectively when someone presents them with an alert card.
This card is the result of a joint venture involving representatives from NHS Highland, Northern Constabulary, The National Autistic Society Scotland, Highlands and Islands Fire Service and the Highland Council.

My own daughter doesnt want one and just wants to "get by".
How do others feel about this card?

I can understand her reluctance but feel she should carry one incase there's a situation wherby she's totally out her depth in not understanding whats happening or whats been explained.
