Tributes to Wick High School teacher

TRIBUTES have been paid to a Caithness teacher named by police as the passenger who died when the Peugeot in which he was travelling was in collision with a camper van near Thurso, last night.
The rector of Wick High School, Thomas McIntyre said of Dr Kevin Constello, of Scrabster, principal teacher of science: “The whole school community is stunned by the news. Kevin was highly respected and popular among colleagues and friends. He was an inspirational teacher who was highly thought of by his pupils. He will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and sympathy are with Kevin’s family. “Our thoughts are also with Liz Wheeler, Science Teacher at Wick High School who was injured in the same accident.”
Speaking on behalf of The Highland Council, Chairman of the Education, Culture and Sport Committee, Councillor Bill Fernie said: “We are shocked and deeply saddened by this tragic loss. Our sincere condolences are with Dr Costello’s family and friends as well as his colleagues and all the pupils at Wick High School.”
The fatal accident occurred on a bend, at the approach to the mile-long straight at Stainland. Emergency services converged on the crash scene shortly after 7pm. The female driver of the Peugeot, fellow teacher, Liz Wheeler, was trapped in the wreckage and had to be released by firefighters. She was treated for fractures and cuts, at Caithness General Hospital, and later transferred to Raigmore Hospital, Inverness.
Police have appealed for witnesses to the accident or drivers who might have seen the white camper van and red-coloured Peugeot prior, earlier.
