Why are all the lanes in Wick being painted puke yellow? True it brightens the place up, but .....Why? Be better to paint the front of the shops, surely.

Nowadays, safety = yellow.

You ain't even allowed into Dounreay now without a yellow jacket, so I'm told. Prevents nuclear catastrophes.

Brilliant, in these times of cuts and loss of important services the council can afford to do a job that did not really need doing, not once, not twice, but three times ...

...words come close to failing me!

Yep, Another case of those in their Ivory Towers deciding on how to waste our Council Tax. And in true council style they have to go back and do the job again cos they got it wrong the first time.
"We are all in this together" cries Cameron....... but not it seems is Highland Council who seem untouchable at wasting tax payers money!!!!!

C3......[disgust][disgust]

Surely this money would have been better spent investing in tar and someone who knows how to lay it properly to repair the roads damaged last winter, before this winter is upon us and the damage gets even worse.

Oh dear. Yet another negative comment putting Noel's column on the Caithness dot Org forums down.

Is there some budding, journalistic, talent lurking within you Droopy or are you just, naturally, negative?

I walked along one of the Yellow Brick Lanes today. I thought it was brilliant, literally. You would be able to spot the doggy doo-doos a mile away and, if the paint is luminous, the Council would be able to switch some of the street lights off at either end of the lanes and you would still be able to walk safely. A job well done IMO. :)

I wouldn't want to care for getting involved in a debate about the cost or necessity of this latest spend, but I am given to understand that this is a not slip surface with safety connotations attached.

I never used to concern myself about walking down any of these lanes before a safety non slip coating was applied, but now I'm walking like a geriatric alcoholic, with piles, on speed with greasy shoes on.:confused Why is that?

Dunno Kevin.

But whatever it is, call on Droopy, he'll see you down. ;)

Just to add to everyone's negative comments, when it rained yesterday puddles started to form on the paths. So when our lovely weather starts turning cold it will just freeze and turn into ice, which is exactly what it does without having some overpriced horrible coloured paint chucked on it

In the toon where I was born
Lived a man who sailed the sea
When he told me of his life
In a land where all are free !

So I took me to the north
Through glens so bright and green
When I reached my bonnie Week
Twas a sight I'd never seen !

They all live in a toon o' yellow lanes
Toon o' yellow lanes
Toon o' yellow lanes
They all live in a toon o' yellow lanes
Toon o' yellow lanes
Toon o' yellow lanes !

Now I've roamed both far and wide
Missed my hame how I have cried
For a sight o' bonnie Week
Wiped a tear from aff ma cheek.
But doon the lanes I'll go once more
And find a freen' at every door .
And the band begins to play

'We all live in a toon o' yellow lanes.....

This is a picture of one of the lanes,(Miller Lane) so that anyone that is outwith of Wick can make a more informed judgment.

Are the councillors in Wick frightened to go up a dark lane on their own they have arranged to have the dark lanes brightened up without the expense of installing lights.
Certainly looks bright enough to be seen from satellites

Yes Invisible it will be a giant slide in Winter when the water gets on the paint.

All I can say - typical council madness.

The real problem is that anyone wearing a hi-viz vest would be rendered invisible.

I thought all the lanes looked so nice, and in keeping with the style of the surrounding buildings, when they were done. But this yellow paint on them now is horrible!

I think it is about time the person or commitee responsible for this entered the thread to let us know their thinking and the benefits of the programme.

It could be anti slip paint looking at the gradient in post 23 picture.

Tonks - the folks in Wick and around have been going up and down that particular lane for many many years, hail, rain, ice and not required anti-slip paint
Even a cailleach like me can manage up Jimmy Bains Lane and if he was going to be cutting my hair I'd manage up it twice as fast (even now).

Aye Pat legs like a pit pony come/spring to mind, but no one in particular in mind though. ;)

Didn't think I could be referred to as a pit pony although may have the legs of one - an old nag maybe a better description.

Or are you referring to the horse/ponies/stables that used to be at the bottom of Miller Lane?
