I know that bacon has water injected into it, basically to make money.. Tesco is now a waste of time for bacon with less/no water; they used to have Ayrshire Bacon, which suited the bill, but no more.

Tried Harold's in Thurso, they have the pre-packed stuff, just tried it and it's got water.. Off into Thurso to try Bews; they cut their own, so we will see.

BUT there is hope on the horizon.. The EU (of all places) are going to make bacon producers put the amount of water if above 5% - let's face it bacon has naturally about 30% water anyway and with the 'stuff' they offer us now it's all 40% water!

Of course we can get it out of the area, but am trying local first - if anyone knows of a local supplier, (that can slice THICK - let me know..

Greystones bacon is great & also the dearer pack in Tesco, not their own brand, is very good.

TESCO does a wonderful Dry Cure Back & Streaky Bacon. It has a fantastic Taste and since it is Dry Cured it has No added water.

Thanks for suggestions folks.. but I should have mentioned we were only after 'thick' cut..

But anyway Mrs Beks went into Bews in Thurso and mentioned that she was after thick back bacon and did theirs have any water in it.. the chap behind the counter was a bit clipped; "none!" - they cure it themselves, so we took a kilo which they cut into our desired thickness.. trying it tomorrow morning, but looks good...

Bews own bacon is delicious. Can`t decide if I like the smoked or sweetcure best, so buy both and alternate it.

Enjoy!!

Our Beks?

Looking for something 'outside' Tesco?

The man who condemned local enterprise to the eternal pit of Damnation in favour of the mega outlet?

You reap what you sow, Beks!:Razz*

Ah! wonder when someone would notice that..I quote: "Tesco is now a waste of time for bacon with less/no water; they used to have Ayrshire Bacon, which suited the bill, but no more."

But I still feel quite safe, the bacon's crap, but the remaining 49,999 lines are (of course!) excellent - still shows I'm not biased ?
