This is likely not in the correct forum..so feel free to move it!

I haven't been on a train in about eight years.......and have never ever transported anything/one but me and kids.........and I now find I am going down the road to escort No 2 grand-daughter + cocker spaniel up to Caithness and back for a week of her holidays. (Nairn to Helmsdale or Wick)

And I have no idea how ScotRail works re transporting animals. Not overly enthusiastic about keeping the dog and grand-daughter company in the guard's van for the journey both ways but if that's what it takes, that's what it takes...though I'd prefer to know so I can get my head round it. The ScotRail site doesn't make anything very much clear, imo.

I just hope somebody on here knows.

Sorry but cant help you here. It's years since we put ours on a train and then like you say, he went straight into the Guards Van. Come to think of it, do they still have a Guards Van?

My daughter and son in law was allowed to take her lab on the train with her, as long as they kept it under control, which was no problem as the vet gave them some tablets to calm him down, and he slept most of the way!!

Thanks, folks.........I knew I'd get a definitive answer here. Should have no problems with the cocker, it is a lapdog par excellence....and even if it wasn't is no bother!

No problems with a well behaved dog and they pay a fare too - cannot remember but think it may be about half price, check first with rail station.

as far as know there is no charge for a lone dog.

yea no charge for a lone dog
but they get lost
they have to have a human with them
so it still costs...good ploy though...go on ..on the train..nanny will take you off the other end!

no seriously
matters not how many dogs you take they are free
however, thats why i said about the seats

IF, you let it on one....

barring the hair etc etc
SOME rail CEO's WILL charge you once on the train

depends if they sre a hitler or not
simple and
keep OFF the seats

dogs go free.

well i've seen 4 small dogs before
i think it depends if you find a hitler or not.

99% of them are really friendly though

i remember i time on the night train, because they were ahead of schedule, they actually stopped at a station to allow quite a few of us to walk our dogs
oh and for him to have a fag!!
