Two accused of threats to police
TWO Wick brothers are to stand trial on offences they are alleged to have committed against the police.
Andrew (24) and Mark Mackay (22) appeared from custody at Wick Sheriff Court, today, and both pleaded not guilty.
The charges accuse them of threatening to damage the cars owned by Constables Ross Robertson and Stephen George and scratching the former officer’s vehicle. Mark Mackay denies a further two charges of abusive or threatening behaviour. The offences are alleged to have occurred, in Wick, between March 13 and July 11.
Andrew Mackay, of Macrae Street, and Mark Mackay, who lives in Seaforth Avenue, both Wick, were granted conditional bail and will reappear in court for their trial on October 12,

Improper gestures to police landed man in a cell.
POLICE officers on early-morning patrol became the target of abuse from Gerrard Magennis, Wick Justice of the Peace Court heard today.
Magennis (42) was standing near a taxi, in Market Square, Wick, when he attracted the attention of the officers on May 21.
Senior fiscal depute, David Barclay said that the accused was making some “rather untoward” hand gestures towards the officers and began to shout and swear. Magennis, who was intoxicated, was arrested and released later after he had sobered up.
The accused who lives in Seaforth Avenue, Wick, was fined £100. He admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner, and has previous conviction for similar conduct.
Van man was speeding
VAN driver Ralph McPhee (52) was fined £180 when he admitted a speeding offence. McPhee of Cairndhuna Terrace, Wick, was clocked on May 4, travelling at speeds up to 80mph when the limit for that type of vehicle on the Watten-Thurso road was 50mph.
Fined for possession
POLICE making inquiries in Thurso’s Brownhill Road, had occasion to search Lee Mackenzie. They found a small quantity of an illegal drug, methylenedioxypyovalerone.
Mackenzie (34) of Lord Thurso Court, Thurso, admitted possession on February 14, and a number of previous convictions, and was fined £200.
Didn’t inform DVLA
A Janetstown man who failed to inform the DVLA that he had disposed of his car, was fined £100. He was Douglas Thorburn (34) of Tintofirth, Janetstown, Thurso.
The offence, which he admitted, occurred on January 2.
Phoning while driving
Ted Hopkins was observed using his mobile phone while driving in the Ormlie Housing Estate on April 7. He pleaded guilty and was fined £60.
Hopkins (61) of Rockwell House, Scrabster, also incurred three penalty points.
Assault denied
A Wick woman has denied a charge of assault and will stand trial on November 1.
She was Leanne Sutherland (21) of Breadalbane Terrace, Wick. The charge alleges that she punched a woman twice on the head, in the car park at the Co-op store in the town, on May 27.
