Got some decent pics of noctilucent clouds earlier this month.......

For those that don't know what these high altitude clouds look like, they're the bluish white ones visible above Thurso Castle. See below for a closer look....

The bright star like object beside the castle is the planet Jupiter.

Well spotted Astroman,I know the weather conditions haven't been ideal for viewing NLC's lately with a lot of low level cloud around but so far this NLC season seems rather poor
in comparison with others.Have'nt seen any of these "night shining" clouds this year so far.

There have been quite a few nights NLCs have been visible over the past month based on records at www.nlcnet.co.uk (http://www.nlcnet.co.uk) . Unfortunately as you say, low cloud over Caithness has done a good job of hiding them :-(
It looks like I caught the end of a very good display during the early hours of the 3rd July when the above photos were taken - the view from Alness was stunning (see http://vimeo.com/25924869)
