Is there a need in Caithness/Sutherland for a 1 to 1 dog trainer?
Been approached to help with couple of dogs recently. Is there nobody up here who does 1 to 1 dog training in clients homes ?

Sounds like a good idea. Do you need to have any qualifications to do such a thing?

David Ashpool, at Mey, is great with dogs, (and their humans!) See their website. http://www.ashmontk9training.co.uk/

Binnes you asked about people being qualifid for dog training I dont think you need to be. The only one I know up here who is is the man in Mey he even trained Carolyn Poultons dogs for her

Thats how I read it carasmam and if you look at the website that canadagirl has suggested you see that we do have someone who does one to one and just about anything else you might need.

No you don't.
10 years ago I decided to attend the international dog trainer school because my pointer was out of control.
I had approached a local dog trainer and attended his puppy class. He pulled me aside and told me my dog needed one to one training. He was a member of every dog association there possibly is, had several qualifications and was a judge at crufts. I was proud to attend his classes. Embarrassed about his suggestion I agreed for him to meet me in a field to teach my dog a proper recall.
To this day my dog is scared of leads, strangers and large open spaces... I don't even want to describe here what he taught me to do and what I did to my dog until I learnt better several months later when I joined the international dog trainer school.
Qualifications don't prevent people from doing the wrong thing :-(

I should have maybe said that I specialise in problem solving (barking, chewing, jumping, aggression, etc etc) and my methods are gentle, not even a raised voice needed. From the pm's I have received there seems to be some need for a dog behaviourist... so I am considering...
Veekay, do you visit clients in their own home to solve behaviour problems ?

Personally I think there is plenty room for another dog trainer especially one who will go to the clients house, go for it Stefan, nothing to lose in giving it a try is there?

I don't do dog training Stefan I just mentioned the fact that canadagirl had mentioned a website and he does do one to one training at the clients home if required and works with problem dogs

Sorry last post made no sense at all. Am borrowing a neighbours computer as mine is poorly and they get automatically logged in and I didn't sign in as me. Clear as mud now isn't it!

Kittycat and Veekay must be the same person, Veekay, arn't you Dave Ashpool's wife?

Well, I met veekay recently at her property and I recognise the property and her husband on the Ashmont training center web site, so I presume it is fairly safe to say she IS D. Ashpools wife. I just wonder why she would hide this simple fact earlier in this thread and chose not to answer this question?
What's the secrecy around the Ashmont training centre ? Has anybody got first hand experience with them ?

Well, well, well, how interesting. Kittycat and veekay appear to be the same person.

I've taken a dog out to Dave Ashpool. With his help turned the worst dog in the world into the best dog in the world.

I went with my dog Dougal several years ago he was a stray living wild for several weeks and quite traumatised when i first had him, Dave really helped me turn Dougal around into a dog that i can now be proud of. By the way it was me that actually needed most of the help and not Dougal lol.
