Great day - lots of young people and wrinklies like me - Come along and have a go - no experience necessary
This is the Thrumster Mains Broch, a massive iron-age structure that has an interesting recent story. Experts in charge but volunteers of every age (young bairns must be accompanied) can take part. Look for the sign just south of Thrumster.
Goes on until 24th July.
Introductory talk on Saturday in Thrumster Village Hall

Today (Saturday), we will be looking at a large hole in the centre of the broch. There is a heftyy metal strap attached to a sort of capstone which covers it, and a suggestion that a flagpole may have been anchored with this in Victorian times. The hole is very deep and more likely to be Iron age.
