It's all go,go,go for the gala
PREPARATIONS for Wick’s biggest festival, gala week, are gaining momentum with members of the organising committee meeting weekly to refine programme events and other arrangements.
The rejuvenated committee emerged from the previous town improvement body and has been fortunate in retaining some of the ‘old’ hands, whose advice and knowledge of staging the event, has been invaluable.
While it would be an exaggeration to assume there is something for everyone, in this year’s programme, there is certainly no lack of variety with a blend of new and old events. The draft programme is nearing its final stage and it is hoped to unveil it by the end of the month or early July.
One problem the committee has encountered is the trophies. Several are still to be returned so, holders, try and attend to that as soon as possible. The gala committee is considering awarding some additional trophies. and prizes and retiring a few of those which have deteriorated over the years. It is hoped to have badges for individual members so they can be readily identified at various events, as organisers.
Local schools have taken part in a competition to produce new designs for a gala logo and these will be judged by Ken Crossan.
All in all, it looks as if there’s quite a week in prospect.
