Sixteen months jail for knife attack man

AN unemployed man who struck another village pub customer in the face with a knife, was jailed for 16 months at Wick Sheriff Court yesterday.
It happened after the accused, Darryl Thomson taunted David Dunbar about his “unpleasant” schooldays’ nickname, at the pub in the St Clair Arms Hotel, in Castletown, while they were watching a rugby game on television, on November 20, last year.
Mr Dunbar lost his temper and punched Thomson, of Olrig Place, Castletown. Bar staff intervened and the pair apologised to each other. However, Thomson left the hotel and went home and returned with a knife. He followed the Mr Dunbar into the toilet and struck him in the face, causing a cut above his lip which required three stitches.
The court was told that Thomson ‘s recollection of the incident was “hazy” due to the amount of alcohol he had consumed.
The accused who admitted a charge of assault, on indictment, realised he had a drink problem, the court was told, and was attempting to address it.
