My Xhusbands cousin developed this,i think.

Years ago she had problems with her hands, almost like arthritis.
Medical profesionals decided she had somehow been infected by the sheep dip while treating her sheep over a period of time.

Is your GP not a "country" doctor?

If a "townie" they might well have never heard of it but might recognise the phrases "Dipper's Flu" or "Sheep Dip Flu".

Doctors don't come across it often so suggest you educate them - Plenty of information on the internet - some links below.

The last one is a form from DEFRA that covers all the info you should be able to provide your GP with.

Also try the NFU - they've been ploughing through their records to glean more info on the subject but I'm not sure if the report is available online.

I think it's like Orf- one of those things the vet is more likely to know about than the doctor......

Agree with you canadagirl, a vet will be more knowledgeable than most docs on this one, vets do longer training and with animals which do not speak so vet has to go by signs and symptoms, vets will spot signs and symptoms often before person is aware there is a problem.

orf is a sheep diease organophosphate is a chemical poison witch penertrates the skin and gets in the blood stream but does not stay in the blood so even a blood test would not show that it is there

there was alot of debate about this 15 or so years ago and no one could come up with many answers or cures for it. it didn't to affect everyone who came into contact with it. we used in for years on our sheep and the dogs and was often drenched in the stuff myself. i seem to have no ill affects from it

if it any consolation it took my x.s cousin months before the professionals discovered what she had.
hopefully thinks will have progressed and you wont have such a long wait for treatment.

I noticed that all the references were shakey at best myself, I found this from back in 1995:
