Two will give evidence against
third accused in car fire trial


TWO WICK teenagers have admitted setting fire to a car in a Wick street.
Brett Webster and Andrew Beresford owned up to the arson attack, at the town’s sheriff court, today, but it was denied by a third accused, Rachel Jones, of Roxburgh Road, Wick.
The hatchback involved was a Seat Leon and was parked at the rear 1 Wellington Street, Wick.
Webster, of Harrow Terrace, and Beresford, of Seaforth Avenue, both Wick, and aged 17, are said to have wilfully set fire to Christopher Hendry’s car, on March 4, this year. The vehicle was destroyed and a Ford Focus, nearby, was damaged.
Senior fiscal depute, David Barclay, gave notice that he intends to call both Beresford and Webster as witnesses, in the trial of Jones (19) on June 24. Her co-accused will be sentenced afterward.
Beresford's address for bail purposes, was given as Hallow Park, Golspie.

Domestic assaults denied

A COUPLE appeared from custody, accused of assaulting each other.
They were 41-year-olds Thomas McTeir and his wife Kim, of Vansittart, Street, Wick, who both pleaded not guilty.
The charges allege that Mr McTeir repeatedly struck his wife on the head to her injury and Mrs McTeir threw a glass at him and punched him on his head, to his injury. The incidents are alleged to have occurred at their home on Monday.
Conditional bail was granted to both accused who will return to court for their trial on August 30.
