Praise for council workers who tackled lorry fire

CAITHNESS COUNCIL workers have been given a pat on the back for their prompt reaction to a fire in their lorry.
The outbreak occurred near Mey, on Friday, and involved a refuse vehicle.
The occupants, Hughie Duncan, Ray Falconer and David Robertson, made a sharp exit from their smoke-filled cab, contacted the fire brigade, stopped traffic and alerted nearby householders to the emergency.
Local Highland Councillor Willie Mackay who happened to be driving behind the lorry said the workers had the “tricky” situation under control in no time at all.”
He added: “I can’t praise them enough for the way they handled the emergency.” Mr Mackay also acknowledged the prompt response of the firefighters from John O’ Groats.
The refuse lorry which was carrying an estimated four tons of cardboard, paper, tins cans and plastic bottles was extensively damaged.
