Stand aims to raise profile on dementia
North Highland Community Health Partnership will have a stand at the Tesco supermarket in Wick on Tuesday June 7 to coincide with Dementia Awareness Week, which runs from June 6 to June 10.
Staff manning the stand, which will be in the entrance to the store from 10am to 3pm, will be handing out leaflets on dementia and the services provided for older adults in Caithness.
Community Psychiatric Nurses Hannah McLean and Gay Draper-Rickards will be on hand to answer any questions and to help people access the services if required.
Mrs McLean explained that they want to raise awareness of dementia and to encourage people to seek help if they are suffering from memory problems.
She said: “We know there are many people with dementia who are currently unaware that they have it. This means they are missing out on treatment, support and opportunities to make choices about the care they receive.
Mrs McLean added: "We can’t stop or cure dementia, but early diagnosis means they can start receiving treatment sooner, which can improve their condition and give them a better quality of life for longer. Early diagnosis is the key to being able to provide an individual approach to care.”
