Knife charge denied by Thurso teenager
A THURSO teenager is to contest a charge of carrying a knife in a public place.
Matthew Begg pleaded not guilty, when he appeared from custody at Wick Sheriff Court, yesterday.
The charge alleges that the 19-year-old, who lives in Dunnet Place, Thurso, had the lock knife in his possession in Main Street, Castletown, on Sunday.
He was granted bail by Honorary Sheriff Bruce de Wert and will return to court for his trial on August 31.
Trial for trio
A POLISH interpreter was drafted in from Inverness to assist one of three accused.
Vaclav Petrzilek (56) described as being of no fixed abode, pleaded not guilty to threatening or abusive conduct.
Mark Elder (19) of Bayview Terrace, Thurso, denies a similar charge, and the third member of the trio, John McGill (22) of Holborn Avenue, Thurso, pleaded not guilty, to assaulting Petrzilek. The offences are alleged to have occurred in the town’s Sir George’s Street, on Saturday.
All three will stand trial on July 6. Elder and McGill were granted bail, but Petrzilek was remanded in custody.
Paint scraper assault alleged
A WICK woman is alleged to have used a paint scraper in a domestic incident.
Amanda Stubbings (37) denied a charge of assault and also pleaded not guilty, to possessing cannabis resin. Her co-accused, David Stubbings (41) denies behaving in a threatening or abusive manner. The incidents are alleged to have occurred at their home in Murchison Street, Wick, last week.
Both accused will returned to court for their trial on August 31.
