Late strike takes Keiss into cup third round

Highland Amateur Cup: Second Round- Kirkwall United.....1 Keiss F.C......2

KEISS left it to the dying minutes to book their place in the third round of the Highland Amateur Cup but, as the old saying goes, better late than never.
Colin MacKenzie’s quality strike sealed the Caithness side’s advancement. He controlled a long ball along the wing flicked it over his head and gave Kirkwall United’s keeper no chance, with a rocket into the top corner.
If Keiss finished well, then they didn’t get off to the best of starts. United took the lead, only three minutes into the game, at the Kirkwall Grammar School pitch, through a powerful Gary Sutherland header. Perry Campbell got the visitors back on level terms with a well-taken penalty in the second period and, just when it looked like finishing all square, in regulation time, the Keiss captain tipped the balance in their favour.
The goal was described as “excellent” by their player-coach Angus Mackay who said that he was happy with his team’s first half performance, despite United taking the lead.
He said he was confident with the way they were playing and the decisive strike by MacKenzie wasn’t too big a surprise, adding: “Colin’s good at turning these situations around.”
United coach, Ally McKinnes, confessed to being “devastated” by the outcome, and was particularly disappointed by the visitor’s winning goal, blaming the defence for “falling asleep” and allowing MacKenzie to get round the back of them.
The United defeat leaves only one Orkney team in the competition, Rovers who dispatched Montrose 5-2.
Hotspurs lost 1-0 to Pentland United and Thurso Acks beat Stromness 2-1, to join Keiss in the third round.
