£125 for 2 days ?! (okay, minus £5 for the soup and sandwich)

materials are already included, maybe Henry brings the tools, but by my calculations ....

6 x £120 = £720 (minimum) .... is this Henry's fee ? ... for 2 days ?!

i love his xylophone at Dunnet and would love to take part in a project like this , but £120 ?!

I have seen some courses for lots of different things and at different costs. £125 for 2 Days. Sheesh!! I will be very surpised if they get 6 people mad enough to pay this amount.

£60 a day for a course is cheap. Make the most of it if you're interested because I bet you won't get it that cheap elsewhere.

personally i wouldn't call it cheap, but you're right, these courses do look more expensive elsewhere.

if it raises money for Dunnet forest trust then great, but it's a shame the cost of the course will leave a lot of interested people unable to take part.

I think it is a great price for a two day course and hope there is enough interest to make it happen.

The recent advert in the Groat and Courier for the Orkney College recently quoted various one day courses priced at £125.
How much you would learn from their courses in one day is beyond me.

Anyone who knows what "wood scribing " really is will have a bit of respect for someone who can teach it.
It's not something you can do in your spare room...

Dog-eared I know of Henry's work and as much as I would love to do this course I can't afford £125 even though I work FT I've not got that kind of disposable income. Much as it might be a great experience.

I always have the problem when I see courses which I fancy doing, I look at the price and think it is too expensive, however what I really mean is that I can't afford it or I can't justify the price. This is probably a reasonable price but it will put a lot of people off.

Oh and I have done it in my spare room, when laying flooring along an uneven wall :-)

I'm in the same position, Sweetpea.

In terms of cost: specialist course will cost specialist prices, it's just one of those things.

I hope you find people who are able to fill the positions - It should be a fantastic weekend!

sorry but i have to agree with the others £125, to make something to leave in the forrest? ?Come on that is over the top its like asking me to come into your garden, pay you for my lunch and to handmake you a table and chairs then give you £125 ! Seriously I think not!

Training courses are not about physical things that the course leaves behind. It is about training people to go away with new skills.....

The last First Aid course I was on to update my certificate was quite expensive but I hope I never need to use it.

Amazing isn't it?

As soon as anyone tries to do something up in Caithness there's an army of numpties coming out of the woodwork to pull everything down.

Good luck to the course provider, I hope they get enough people who can afford the course and can see that hands on knowledge sometimes has to be paid for at something near the market rate.

I know this does look expensive but there's no profit for the forest with just six trainees, apart from the picnic table and two benches, these will be large as they will be made using 'log cabin ' type techniques. The cost has to cover Henry's accommodation, travel expenses as well as his fees.
The forest hopes to build a log cabin type woodland shelter next year and is at the planning application stage now.We are hoping to run a much longer woodscribing training course then at the same time as building the woodland shelter, it will be advertised across the Highlands.
Henry Fosbrook's hand made xylophones, drums and musical instruments are 'special', his log cabins are amazing! see photos on Milton Community Woodland website.
