washed my car yesterday and had the house windows done day before and now everything is covered in a layer of dust/ash stuff...no wonder they dont let planes fly through that lot??

Hose your car down. Dont just wipe the wipers as it can scratch your windscreen. Volcanic ash is sharp, crystaline and abrasive, not like normal stoor. It will scratch your paintwork if not hosed off completely beforehand too.

I had my window ajar upstairs I went it close it and saw my window sill was covered in a layer of dust/ash. (I only cleaned it yesterday!!)

Heard earlier Icelanders are advised to keep their houses warm to keep the dust out.

Nowhere near the same scale but what an excuse to curl up in front of the fire!

It's not only dust and ash that can scratch. Many years ago, shortly after having my classic car resprayed, some bright spark decided to swipe the snow off the boot lid, leaving a huge scratch right across it!
