Another good year for Northern Constabulary
THE LATEST performance statistics for the Force reveal that crime in the Highlands and Islands in 2010-11 has continued to fall showing a decrease of 4% against the previous year (classes 1-5). This equates to 568 fewer victims of crime.
The detection rate for classes 1 to 5 is 62.8%, with over 91% of serious crimes against the person detected. Overall detection rates remain high at just over 84% over all classes of crime.
Vandalism is frequently raised as a concern for communities and it is pleasing to note that these crimes fell by 15% across the whole Force area.
Crimes of indecency (Class 2) showed a rise of 9.8% over a three year average; however this is largely due to a number of historical sex abuse cases with multiple victims being reported and detected during this period.
Northern Constabulary presented the Force’s performance for the year 2010 to 2011 to the Northern Joint Police Board which met today, 13 May 2011.
Chief Constable George Graham praised Northern Constabulary's officers and staff for the excellent performance results. He said:
"The commendable results across the Force area are down to the continued dedication and commitment of our officers and staff and the support of our communities and partners. These results show that excellent police work has continued to drive crime down and maintain the highest detection rates in the UK against a backdrop of an extremely challenging and uncertain financial climate. This is clearly one of the highest performing forces in the UK and my aim is to keep it that way."
North Division saw a 8.6% decrease in overall crime rates with a significant increase in detection rates from 62.8 to 67.9%
East Division saw a slight (0.4%) decrease in crime across the division, with detection rates remaining steadily high at over 60% (class 1-5)
Central Division saw a 5.8% decrease in crime with overall detection rates remaining high at nearly 62%.
