Jack has his finger on the pulse

IT MIGHT not be the biggest piece of medical equipment but staff at the Lybster medical practice say it will be well used.
The finger pulse oximeter was the latest item to be donated by the Caithness Chest and Heart Support Group.
Six-year-old Jack Smith, whose mother is attached to the practice, volunteered to have his finger on the pulse. Checking the youngster's pulse rate and oxygen saturation was Dr Borja Echavarren, who was delighted to announce that Jack had passed the test with flying colours.
Also pictured, are, from left to right, (standing) his mother, Joanne Smith, health care assistant, district nurse, Rita Sutherland, Ernie Ross, chairman of the chest and heart support group and fellow member, Janice Macgregor.
The group, which raises funds for medical equipment, locally, was delighted to receive a number of financial donations recently. Members enjoyed an illustrated talk on St Kilda, by Peter Almond, as part of its social programme.
The support group's AGM takes place at the canteen, in Caithness General Hospital, on May 10, at 7.30pm, everyone welcome. Guest speaker, is Dr Timothy Shallcross, whose topic will be, "Does anything change in Caithness?"
