Help. Advice urgently needed. I purchased a big container of milk and placed it on the floor in the front passenger side, and when i got home discovered it had leaked. Now my new car stinks of old milk. I washed the car mats and the car carpet, left the windows open, used all kinds of smelly sprays, but the car smells awfull. The milk has got into the underlay under the car carpet, but the carpet cannot be moved.
Has anyone else suffered this nightmare, if so, how did you get rid of the smell.?

Pet stores carry a neutralizing liquid, an enzyme that neutralizes odors. It works on dog urine so it might work on sour milk. Worth a try anyway. Good luck!

I dont know if this will help but they say bicarbonate of soda is good for smells. Just sprinkle it on and leave it a couple hours overnight would be best then hoover up.

Try a steam cleaner it will work deep into the carpet and might lift the bad smell out.

I was once given the tip to use Rose Water to remove the smell after one of my kids had been car sick.

It worked a treat!

Newpark is quite right in that you sprinkle baking soda all over the spill and then apply a small amount of lukewarm water.

Leave the doors and windows open for a while to ventilate and then, after a few hours, hoover up the baking soda.

Sorry to tell you this but I know someone who finally decided to sell his car after trying all sorts to get rid of the smell of spilt milk.
Hope you have more success!

have you tried soaking it with a carpet shampooer and then sucking all the fluid up?

Not really a good idea to use the steamer to get rid of a smell. I used it one time when the cat had diarreah on the carpet, WELL, you can't begin to imagine what like it was. The whole house was filled with this brown steam and the smell was enough to make you boke [disgust]

Feeling a bit sick just thinking about it! At least in the car you are outside and can leave all the doors open whilst you do it so the smelly air will blow away in the good old caithness wind.

Well I have spent the last few days washing the carpet, spraying all kinds of things on it, leAVING NEWSPAPERS TO SOAK IT UP, LEAVING WINDOWS OPEN ALL DAY. Finally I covered the car carpet at the front passenger side with loads of bicarbonate of soda and prayed it would hoover up. It did, without a mark. The smell is not so bad now, though there is still a slight smell. i will probably spend the next year repeating all this every couple of days!!
Thank you to you all for your advice.
